On March 29 and 30, the Pan American School hosted the 2025 Mathcounts Competition State Level, bringing together 60 students and 16 teachers from seven international schools across Brazil, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and Campinas. The two-day event focused on logical reasoning, teamwork, and academic excellence.

Mathcounts is a math competition aimed at Middle School students from 6th to 8th grade. It is inspired by the American model of school math Olympiads and features both individual and team challenges. The competition encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration among students.

Pan American School's participation was also marked by noteworthy achievements. Gabriel W., an 8th-grade student, ranked among the top 10 competitors, representing the school with excellence. His accomplishment serves as an inspiration to the school community and reinforces the value of initiatives that promote critical thinking and student leadership. In addition, the Pan American team placed 4th overall out of 17 competing teams. The team was composed of Bernardo W. (G8), Gabriel W. (G8), Giovana L. (G6), and Larissa W. (G6).

According to Mr. Renato Petry, Secondary School Assistant Principal and Middle Years Program Coordinator, hosting the Mathcounts State Level 2025 represents a significant opportunity to reinforce the academic excellence of schools within the Association of American Schools in Brazil (AASB) and invited international schools by providing students with a platform to showcase their talent and dedication to mathematics.

“This event represents the school’s commitment to developing essential skills, encouraging healthy competition and collaboration among students, while also strengthening the school's identity as a center of high-level learning,” Mr. Renato emphasized. By bringing together students, teachers, and educational leaders around a shared goal, the competition fostered a collaborative network among schools and gave students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a challenging environment.
